Advertising Notre Dame: Ad for core constituents

Perhaps the video advertisement shown during the Pittsburgh game is intended for a very specific audience which has been long neglected. The ad was not designed to attract prospective students or even their parents. There is certainly no shortage of applicants. Nor was it intended to demonstrate how the University is on a par academically with certain aspirational peers, or how much the University and its alums are contributing to make a better world. It is good to see that we don't sense the need to say that. Perhaps the ad is intended for that core constituency who believe that the message has been too subdued in recent times, saying to them yes, we are uniquely Notre Dame and proud of our traditions. I am thrilled that our new leaders are willing to shout that boldly, not only to a neglected constituency but to the world, on national television.
