SMC first year 'fine' after being hit by car

A Saint Mary's first year student was hit by a vehicle while crossing U.S. Highway 933/U.S. Highway 31 on her bicycle around 6:15 p.m. Monday night.

Karen Johnson, vice president of Student Affairs, said the student was "doing fine" and was expected to be released later that night, according to a statement released by Gwen O'Brien, Director of Media Relations for Saint Mary's.

The first year student was not seriously injured, suffering only minor cuts and bruises, Johnson said.

St. Joseph County police, Notre Dame Security Police and Saint Mary's Department of Safety and Security all responded to the scene.
