I wish to express my gratitude to the students who, earlier this month, presented a petition to Fr. Jenkins asking that sexual orientation be added to the University's non-discrimination clause. Fr. Jenkins' decision to reject the petition is deeply distressing. I hope that in the future Notre Dame will reconsider this decision, which contradicts the ideals set out in the 'Spirit of Inclusion.' Despite the disappointing result, I thank those brave students who stood up for the rights of L.G.B.T.Q. students, and stood up for the ideals Notre Dame claims to uphold.
