Eight football players arrested

Police busted a South Bend party early Saturday morning and sent 43 to the St. Joseph County jail, including eight football players and members of the hockey and basketball teams, according to local news reports.

The Indiana excise police were called to a party on Washington Street, and rounded up the 43 on various alcohol charges, according to a WNDU report. They were held at the jail until their blood alcohol levels fell to a legal level.

Football players arrested were: junior quarterback Nate Montana, junior linebacker Steve Filer, sophomore kicker Nick Tausch, sophomore offensive guard Chris Watt, sophomore receiver Robby Toma, freshman receiver Tai-ler Jones, freshman cornerback Lo Wood and freshman offensive lineman Tate Nichols.

"I am aware of the situation and am collecting more facts," Irish coach Brian Kelly said in a statement. "If there is any team-related discipline to be issued, it would be handled internally."

Basketball player Tim Abromaitis, a senior forward, was also arrested along with nine hockey players.
