A renewal of one of the most storied rivalries in college football, Saturday’s Notre Dame-Army game at the new Yankee Stadium in New York was a game for the ages. The Irish defense stepped up, giving up only 3 points to a revved-up Army squad, while freshman quarterback Tommy Rees threw two touchdowns to lead the Irish offense. As dignitaries and the famous “subway alumni” looked on, Notre Dame cruised to a 27-3 victory over the Black Knights. Observer photographers Dan Jacobs and Pat Coveney captured the historic win.
