Coachella 2011

While the sun was noticeably absent from South Bend this weekend, in Indio, California it beat down relentlessly on festival-goers taking in the sounds of Coachella. Coachella is notable for its high celebrity attendance, which has made this desert oasis a veritable stomping ground for trendsetters. If a celebrity is seen wearing something at Coachella, it's likely there will be hundreds of hipsters wearing the same thing at festivals for the rest of the summer.

Katy Perry lit up the festival in her throw back lace dress. The ground-sweeping garment paired with a single strand of pearls is unmistakably inspired by Madonna's "Like a Virgin" attire. To give the outfit character, she added a twisted turban-esque headband and nude Grecian sandals.

Kate Bosworth, a Coachella regular, sported a black tea-length dress with gray sandals and a silver necklace. The actress' outfit is the perfect combination of comfort and style. By foregoing the full-length dress, Bosworth is not at risk of suffering a dirty hemline. Her wrist full of bracelets offsets the simplicity of the dress.

Bosworth's streak of great outfits continued the next day. She wore beige denim shorts with a distressed American flag cutoff shirt and aviator sunglasses. The outfit is the epitome of fuss-free festival gear. She keeps her footwear simple; her beige sneakers are well suited to walking around for hours.

Alessandra Ambrosia, the supermodel seen in countless Victoria's Secret ads, was also seen at Coachella this weekend. She wore a light pink dress with a loose fit and mid-length chocolate cowboy boots. Her multicolor scarf serves as a useful accessory that can combat chills when the sun goes down.

Malin Akerman attended the festival in a more structured outfit than would usually be expected at a music festival. She wore a high-waisted white denim skirt with a black camisole, black belt and a wide brimmed black fedora. Despite the structure of the outfit, it was the picture of elegance.

Diane Kruger was spotted at the Lacoste party as part of the Coachella festival in an outfit that was the diametric opposite of Akerman's outfit. She wore a slinky black racerback tank with a long beige pleated skirt and a thin brown belt. She adds a fedora to protect her skin from the sun's piercing rays and her turquoise necklaces are the perfect pop of color.

Vanessa Hudgens' hippie chic style manifested itself in two very different outfits at the festival. She walked around barefoot at the festival in a pair of high-waisted, acid-washed denim cutoff shorts and a belly-baring crocheted halter. She accessorized with face paint, above-the-elbow bracelets and a unique chain contraption around her thigh. With feathers in her wavy locks, this creative ensemble is certainly reminiscent of the 1960s.

Her second outfit is comprised of a low slung patterned skirt and an orange racerback tank with a tribal print on it. She wears a crocheted messenger bag to carry all of her festival needs. She accessorizes her outfit with a chic gray floppy hat and more over-the-elbow bracelets.

Coachella is one of the first festivals of the year and its stylish attendees set the trends for the rest of the summer. Celebrities at the festival dress to impress and this year they certainly accomplished their goal.
