ND Minute gets a close shave at The Bald & The Beautiful

Before the Fighting Irish even kick off their 2011 football season, the team will have accomplished something amazing. 45 members of the squad shaved their heads Wednesday for the Class of 2012's third annual charity fundraiser "The Bald & The Beautiful: ND Fights Cancer."

The event, which is running April 13-15, looks to raise funds for St. Baldrick's Foundation, a charity committed to cancer research funding. In addition to members of the football team, members of the Notre Dame and Saint Mary's campus communities will be participating in the event, including University Hair Stylists hairdresser Angie Paris.

In addition to shaving their heads, participants have the option of donating eight inches of hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths or buy a colored hair extension to benefit Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

We spoke to event organizers Mark Kramer and Mike Oliver about what they hope to accomplish with the The Bald & The Beautiful: ND Fights Cancer. We also spoke to quarterback Tommy Rees, who offered his insight into why the event is such a powerful display of what students can accomplish in solidarity for a good cause.
