Congratulations, Holy Cross transfers

As the first couple of weeks of the new school year begin, I would like to take the time to recognize a special group of individuals. Each semester, a group of transfer students from colleges and universities all across the world enter the realms of Notre Dame in pursuit of their continuing college education. A small group of these transfer students come from Holy Cross. No, I'm not talking about the one in Worcester, Massachusetts.

I am talking about the small college that borders the west side of our beloved campus. Out of all the students that transfer to Notre Dame, the ones who come from Holy Cross College have a peculiar catchphrase that emphasizes their actions.

Known as "pulling a Rudy" (referring to the legendary Notre Dame Football player Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger), a number of Holy Cross students fill out transfer applications in the hopes of moving across the street. This fall, eight Holy Cross College students (including myself) enrolled at this university. I would like to congratulate those seven other Holy Cross students for their accomplishment.

As Father Jenkins said at the luncheon during Transfer Orientation, never let anyone else tell you that you are less of a Notre Dame student than those who go here all four years. My words to you are as follows: You are and always will be members of the Notre Dame family and you deserve to enjoy it to the fullest!
