ND Women's Soccer: Young squad falls to Florida State in Elite Eight

Notre Dame's unlikely NCAA tournament run came to a halt Friday in Tallahassee, Fla., when the "baby" Irish dropped a 1-0 game to No. 7 Florida St.

Early in the year, Irish coach Randy Waldrum noted the nationwide field did not have one dominant team like it had in years past. But he did mention the Seminoles (20-3) as a program that turned heads.

"I can see after playing them why they certainly spent a number of weeks at the No. 1 ranking," Waldrum said.

The Seminoles' three losses came in the last week of the regular season and in the ACC tournament semifinal.

"They're pretty solid all across the field," Waldrum said. "Having said that, I still would go back to what I was saying. I still don't think there's been a dominant, dominant team this year."

But even faced with a balanced, experienced opponent, Waldrum believed his team was competitive and very easily could have won.
