Fr. Theodore Hesburgh in retirement

Fr. Theodore Hesburgh retired in 1987 after a 35-year term as Notre Dame's president. In his retirement, Hesburgh enjoyed spending time in his office on the 13th floor of Hesburgh Library and participated in dorm events such as Zahm House's Hesburgh Challenge. Hesburgh died Thursday night at the age of 97
