Irish compete in St. Louis

The Notre Dame men’s and women’s fencing teams competed in the North American Cup in St. Louis over the weekend. The competition was held at the St. Louis Convention Center and consisted of four days of action between Friday and Monday.

Freshmen Madeline Antekeier and Molly Hudson represented the women’s team in the Junior women’s epee, finishing 12th and 23rd, respectively, on Friday morning, The results ended up being Notre Dame’s highest on the weekend as well. Antekeier also competed in the Division I women’s epee bracket on Sunday, finishing 36th.

In other action Friday, sophomore Steffen Felt and junior John Crumpler finished 59th and 70th, respectively, in the Division I men’s foil on Friday while freshman Blake Murphy took 94th in the Junior men’s saber in the afternoon.

In the second day of action, sophomore Madeline Gallagher finished 92nd in the Junior women’s saber. Senior John Poremski represented the Irish in the Division I men’s epee but finished tied for 274th.

Freshman Blake Murphy, who placed 99th in Division 1 men’s saber, led the Irish on the men’s side on Sunday.

Highlights over the final day of action included sophomore Zoe Loh taking 30th in the Junior women’s foil and her sophomore teammate Claudia Kulmacz finishing tied for 42nd in the Division 1 women’s saber bracket.

Notre Dame returns to action this weekend when it hosts the third annual DeCicco Duals. The Duals are scheduled to take place all day at the Castellan Family Fencing Center.
