Firefighters extinguished a small fire in Duncan Student Center on Wednesday afternoon, according to an email from University spokesperson Dennis Brown.
The facility — an add-on to the west side of Notre Dame Stadium — is currently under construction, as part of the Campus Crossroads Project. Brown said the fire started when a hose disconnected from an acetylene tank used for welding around 1:20 p.m.Workers were quickly evacuated, Brown said, and responders from Notre Dame, South Bend and Clay Township put out the fire. No one was injured.
Brown said the hose became disconnected for unknown reasons.The fire was on the sixth floor of the building. Construction on the building is set to be completed by the end of 2017.
