Belles take first in MIAA meet

So much for not beating Hope.

The Saint Mary's golf team, after losing to Hope's Flying Dutch in three straight tournaments, blew them and everyone else out by taking first place at an MIAA competition at Adrian College Saturday.

Defending D-III national champion Stefanie Simmerman fired an impressive 81 to win the individual title, while teammates Julie Adams and Megan Mattia shot 83 and 84 respectively to finish second and third overall and help push the Belles to a final shot total of 340, 12 ahead of the second-place finisher Hope.

The first-place finish is Saint Mary's first of the fall season and gives them the lead in the MIAA Standings.

Coach M ark Hamilton could not be reached for comment because the Belles played at the DePauw Invitational Sunday and Monday. After the first day of that tournament, Saint Mary's was in first place, with Simmerman leading all competitors
