Photo Gallery: Auschwitz-Birkenau

SARAH MERVOSH | Tuesday, April 26, 2011

Though seeing the haunting and disturbing effects of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camps in person are unparalleled, these photos attempt to capture what the camps were like for prisoners and for those who lost their lives there.

This photo gallery includes the execution wall, the oven where bodies were burnt, the remains of a crematorium and images of the camps themselves. It also shows large piles of possessions, such as shoes, hairbrushes and equipment to assist the handicap, which were stripped from their owners upon arriving at the camps.
