SMC Swimming & Diving: Belles complete first day at MIAA championsips

The Belles ended the first day of the MIAA championships at Jenison High School in Jenison, Mich., on Wednesday with one event in the books.

In the 800-meter freestyle relay, the only women's event of the day, the Saint Mary's team composed of senior Ellie Watson, sophomore Anna Nolan and freshmen Emily Brown and Caroline Neville finished in seventh place. However, they finished in 8:08.10, recording the fifth-fastest time in Saint Mary's history.

After one event Wednesday, Calvin heads into today's action in first place with 40 team points. The Belles' 24 team points trail sixth-place Olivet by two.

"Seeing how we swam tonight we are excited and pumped for tomorrow," senior captain Genevieve Splitter said.

The Belles will compete today in the 500-meter freestyle relay, 400-meter medley and 200-meter freestyle relay.
