Less than a week after falling four points short in Tallahassee, Notre Dame found success in the Sunshine State, landing a commitment from class of 2015 linebacker Tevon Coney on Thursday morning.

Coney, the No. 374 overall player in the country according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, announced his decision on ESPN.com. Coney had also been considering Florida and Miami, though the Gators and Irish were believed to be the two top finalists. Coney hails from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

"I think I fit best at the Irish," Coney said on ESPN.com. "It’s a great system up there. I think I fit in well. I think I can make some big plays for the Irish next year.

"I think the program is a great program and it fits me also. I think I’m the type of person that needs to go to Notre Dame, get away from home, focus more on school and football and try to reach my goals that I want to reach in life."

The 6-foot-1, 222-pounder took an official visit to Notre Dame for the Michigan weekend in early September, per 247Sports. Two weekends ago, Coney took an official visit to Florida, according to 247Sports.

Coney’s pledge gives Notre Dame 21 commitments in its class. Quarterback Brandon Wimbush and linebacker Asmar Bilal both committed to the Irish in October, as well. The Irish are ranked No. 7 in the AP poll and are 6-1.
