New phishing scam reported to OIT

A new phishing scam on campus is attempting to blackmail people for money, the Office of Information Technologies (OIT) said in an email to the Notre Dame community.

The scam involves an email message claiming to have “embarrassing video, pictures and information about you,” the OIT email said. The message demands Bitcoin money to keep the information from going public.

“Do not attempt to send any money; just delete the message,” the OIT email said.

Questions about email scams or other suspicious messages can be directed to departmental IT support staff or the OIT Help Desk (574-631-8111 or oithelp@nd.edu).
