Transformer causes power outage across campus

A transformer tripped at a power substation, causing power to go out across about half of Notre Dame‘s campus around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

“Power was lost for about 10 minutes. Power plant personnel are working to determine the cause,” University spokesperson Dennis Brown said in an email.

Power outages occurred in Fitzpatrick Hall, O'Shaughnessy Hall, LaFortune Student Center, North Dining Hall, DeBartolo Hall and several resident halls, among other buildings.

The event triggered a fire alarm in the Taco Bell in LaFortune Student Center, but no harm was done by outage, Brown said.
“The Notre Dame Fire Department responded to an alarm at the Taco Bell in LaFortune,” he said in the email. “It turns out there was no fire or any other hazard. The alarm was triggered by the power outage.”
