As the flowers begin to bloom and the warm weather is becoming more of a common occurrence, new trends are arriving on campus. For many, spring 2021 seems to be a fresh start in our lives, and our outfits can be too. Here are the top five trends we will most likely see this spring.
Bright colors and patterns
Based on new collections and releases, this spring is going to have vibrant garments, specifically hues of tangerine, bubble gum pink and tennis ball green. So far, garments, shoes, handbags, etc. are all being released in these three shades. They are also being included in the patterns and florals along with lively, saturated shades. New this season, many of the patterns and florals are sharper, psychedelic (thank you, Tom Ford) and textured. Think ’70s styles.
Wide leg trousers
The fashion houses are finally listening to the population… or maybe Gen-Z cancelling skinny jeans. Wide leg trousers are popping up this season with no limitations. Featured on the Chanel, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton runways, wide leg trousers are a great way to be comfortable but still have a tailored look. Materials include silk, linen, khaki, denim, corduroy and spunky patterns. Khaki style chino pants have also received a makeover this season with an oversized, wide leg, baggy look.
Micro mini skirts
The sun is shining and hem-lines are on the rise. The micro mini skirt is back. Seen on the runways and spring collections of Chloé, Miu Miu, Versace and more, the micro mini is selling in a wide variety of styles. A-line, bejeweled, mixed patterns and denim are just some of the options.
The oversized shirt
Formally known as the “boyfriend” style shirt, the oversized shirt is an extra long garment. The top can be worn in many ways and used as a layering piece or finishing touch to an outfit. The vibrant colors and patterns have already made an impact on this trend, and the simple white shirt isn’t your only option. Many of the oversized shirts this season are very colorful — and even feature the gorgeous tangerine and bubble gum pink shades. The XXL shirt allows you to be comfortable but still have a tailored look.
Knitwear
Cashmere, wool and ribbed knitwear continue to be staples this season. If the weather isn’t the warmest, a knitwear layer can be an added element to pull an outfit together. However, a change from the winter knitwear look is the colorful styles that have been added. Knitwear is taking shape in cropped and bolero sweaters, wide leg pants, corsets (think 2021 Bridgerton) and lingerie with knit bras. Although it is a safe option to stick with a classic sweater, many of the knitwear options are a fun new addition to your wardrobe.
Although we still aren’t sure what 2021 has to offer, the spring 2021 trends are giving fresh and fun pieces we will most likely be seeing in the Bend, not just on the runways.
