Wednesday night's senate meeting saw senators from all halls engaged in passing a resolution.
The senators also promoted upcoming campus events such as the Fisher Car Smash Friday afternoon outside of LaFortune Student Center. Additionally, they discussed the opening of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion center Thursday on the second floor of LaFortune Student Center and Badin Hall’s “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event Friday on South Quad. Following general announcements, the assembly, gathered in the Mendoza College of Business, focused solely on the resolution to restore the quesadilla kiosks to the dining halls during normal lunch hours. “We have a very exciting resolution in new business,” student body vice president Aiden Rezner said at the beginning of the assembly. At the beginning of the school year, the quesadilla stations were replaced by the new burger stations which were installed as a result of the removal of Smash Burger from LaFortune Student Center. “They thought there wouldn’t be much of an outcry. But there was an outcry,” said Sam Godinez, a sophomore and Dillon Hall senator.

When a discontented student reached out directly to Godinez, he crafted a resolution. “I have time, I can work on it. I am passionate about giving back to the student body, therefore I should work on the quesadillas,” he said. To present a resolution to the student senate, Godinez first had to craft a petition and receive 200 signatures. He wrote the petition on Sept. 1 and sent it to his friends and classmates. He received 51 signatures in three days. Godinez also received support from his fellow student senators, who sent the petition to their constituents and friends. “I knew I had support not only from my dorm but also from campus as a whole,” he said. The petition swiftly reached 200 signatures. After the Student Activities Office approved the petition, it was formally turned into a resolution. On Wednesday, it was presented to the student senate. The senators were eager to pass the resolution, and they unanimously consented to skip the reading, questioning and debating stages that are typical to the process of passing a resolution. The resolution passed unanimously and the senate floor abounded with applause. The resolution will now be sent to Campus Dining to ensure that “everything is in order,” Godinez said.
