Irish qualify for national championship after a strong showing at regionals

After a successful weekend in Madison, Wisconsin competing in the 2023 NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Notre Dame cross country traveled back to South Bend with their sights set on the 2023 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships. The Irish were confirmed as participants in the contest by the NCAA on Saturday, Nov. 11. The women's team qualified with an automatic bid following their first-place finish at regionals, with the men receiving an at-large bid. The upcoming championship will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.

At regionals, the women had a dominant showing in the 6k, led by graduate student Olivia Markezich who took home the gold in the Great Lakes Regional with a time of 19:55.10. Senior Erin Strzelecki (6th, 20:20.10) and graduate student Andrea Markezich (9th, 20:38.10) also took home top ten finishes.

For the men, graduate student Tyler Berg led the way with a seventh-place finish in the 10k with a 29:50.80. Sophomore Ethan Coleman followed in 12th in 30:00.50, with graduate student Vincent Mauri finishing 20th in 30:12.70.
