State of the Irish infographic: Notre Dame is Frozen Four bound

After posting back-to-back comeback victories over Minnesota and UMass Lowell, Notre Dame is headed back to the Frozen Four for the first time since 2011 and the third time in program history. It’s a short trip, too: This year’s edition of college hockey’s national championship weekend is at United Center in Chicago, home of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks.

Waiting for the Irish in the Windy City are the Denver Pioneers, who blitzed through their regional as the No. 1 overall seed in this year’s tournament and are looking to claim their first championship since 2005. The Irish and Pioneers take to the ice at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

The winner of the Notre Dame-Denver game meets the winner from the first semifinal contest between Minnesota-Duluth and Harvard in the title game, which is slated for 8 p.m. Saturday.

Below is an update on the state of an Irish team that’s trying to win the first national championship in program history after falling in the 2011 national semifinal and the 2008 title game.
