With the University's decision to continue distanced learning for the duration of the semester, room and meal charges will be prorated to those students who are no longer on campus, the Director for the Office of Student Accounts Eugene Pilawski said in an email to students Thursday.
“The University has, for each student account, determined the extent to which each family will receive credit for room and meals,” Pilawski said. “Any such credit will be prorated based on the portion of the semester’s room and meals charge paid for by the student/student’s family, as well as the percentage of the spring semester that the student was able to spend in University housing.”
The maximum amount of the potential room and meals credit a student could receive is $3,910 — half of the $7,820 room and board cost for the semester. The maximum credit for students in a single room $4,035 and $8,070. The amount of the potential credit will be reduced for students who received “gift assistance” that exceeds the cost of tuition and fees, Pilawski said.
“Refunds of valid credit balances will be processed via direct deposit on IRISHPAY,” Pilawski said. “Should there be a balance due on the account of a student who receives a full or partial room and meals credit, the credit will first be applied toward the balance.”
Credits will be applied to the accounts of eligible students by April 30, Pilawski said.
