Jenkins issues apology for failing to social distance with students

University President Fr. John Jenkins issued an apology to the Notre Dame student body Thursday for failing to follow recommended social distancing guidelines while engaging with students.

In the email, Jenkins apologized for taking photos with students around campus over recent days.

“While all of the scientific evidence indicates that the risk of transmission is far lower outdoors than indoors, I want to remind you (and myself!) that we should stay at least six feet apart,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins apologized for his actions and recommended students follow medical advice to physically distance themselves from others.

“So, please understand that if you ask to have a photo taken with me, I will insist on two arm’s lengths apart, masks on!” he said.
