Saint Mary’s to begin spring semester Feb. 3, following ND and HCC schedule

Saint Mary’s President Katie Conboy announced in an email Thursday afternoon that the College will adopt the spring semester schedule implemented by Notre Dame and Holy Cross.

The first day of the spring semester will be Wednesday, Feb. 3, with no classes on Good Friday. Final exams will be from May 14-19, and commencement weekend will be May 21-23.

Conboy cited cold winter weather and the threat of increased seasonal illnesses as the reasons for the later spring semester start date.

“We know that the winter months will present new challenges, including the need to spend more time indoors and the usual round of winter colds and flus — that’s why we are trying to shrink the winter period for campus-based activity,” Conboy said.

According to the email, the College is in the process of deciding whether or not to offer housing during the extended winter break. The College is also considering adding a winter academic session.
