Demolition to establish the new Saint Mary’s Center for Integrative Healthcare Education in Regina Hall will begin in February, College President Katie Conboy announced in an email Friday.
“The College has committed to advancing this work without delay,“ Conboy said.
Construction of the new center with the vision for expanded nursing science facilities is already underway.
“Some of you who are nursing students have, I believe, already held conversations with the architects,” Conboy said. “Thank you for helping us to better understand your needs.”
According to the email, all departments located in Regina Hall will be relocated, most permanently, except for the Theatre and Dance Studios, which will return to Regina Hall before the upcoming fall semester. Residences in Regina North and South and the Mother Angela Center will not be affected.
The project also includes the renovation of the residence hall’s entrances and lounge spaces by the fall semester.
As a result of the construction, Regina Chapel will be demolished.
“We have requested a Decree of Decommissioning from the Bishop for Regina Chapel and instead will provide a sacred space closer to the students, honoring our commitment to provide a place of prayer within each residence hall,“ Conboy said. “Over the next few years, I will identify a more visible space on campus to locate a new, sizable and accessible chapel for the larger community.“
