University announces fall 2021 academic calendar

The University announced the academic calendar for the 2021 fall semester in an email from the Office of the Provost Wednesday evening.

Classes will begin Aug. 23 and end Dec. 7. Final exams will take place from Dec. 10-12 and Dec. 14-16, with reading days scheduled for Dec. 8-9 and Dec. 12-13. Students will have a mid-term break from Oct. 16-24.

Essential academic programs and critical academic offerings for degree-seeking Notre Dame students will take place on campus this summer, according to the email. Summer courses and University-approved adult academic enrichment offerings and conferences will also be held in person. All other academic programs are encouraged to offer virtual programming, the email said.

The email also announced decisions regarding the School of Architecture’s summer programming will be made after April 26. The announcement follows the decision released earlier this week that summer study abroad programs have been suspended

Additionally, the email reminded students to continue to follow safety protocols as COVID-19 cases are rising nationally and locally.

“Despite the increasing (and encouraging) availability of vaccines, we still have a journey before us in beating COVID-19,” the email said. “Please remember that our public health protocols remain fully in effect.”
