Notre Dame’s tuition will increase by 2.5% for the 2022-2023 academic year, according to the financial aid website. The 2.5% increase is the University’s second-lowest increase in 60 years, University spokesperson Dennis Brown said in an email.
Last year’s 1.98% increase in tuition was the lowest in the previous 60 years. Total costs to attend are estimated to rise by 2.38% per year on average, according to the financial aid website. Tuition will rise from $58,843 for the 2021-2022 academic year to $60,301. Room and board will also jump 2.5%, increasing from $16,304 to $16,710. Factoring in estimations for books, supplies, transportation and personal expenses, the financial aid website expects the average cost to attend next year to be $80,211, compared to $78,347 in the 2021-2022 academic year.
The University plans to provide more than $190 million in need-based undergraduate financial aid next year, up 6% from 2021-2022, Brown said. About 50% of undergraduate students will receive need-based scholarships that do not require repayment, he added.
“The median amount of this institutional aid per student is approximately $46,000, about three-quarters the cost of tuition and fees,” Brown said in the email.
In the past decade, the University’s total charges — tuition, fees and room and board — have jumped from $54,905 to $77,011, a 40% increase. During the same time period, the amount of need-based aid has increased from $113 million to now an expected $190 million, a 68% increase.
Brown said the Board of Trustees collaborates with the administration each spring semester to set the upcoming tuition price based on University needs.
