Saint Mary’s soccer keeps the ball rolling with win over Manchester

Saint Mary’s soccer improves to 4-3 with a 2-0 win over Manchester and will face Hiram College on Wednesday.

The Saint Mary’s soccer team improved to 4-3 on the season after picking up a 2-0 win over the Manchester Spartans at home. The Belles are now 4-0 at home.

The Belles scored their first goal in the first half. Senior Mary Kaczynski got her first goal of the season with an assist from freshman Taylor London. Throughout the first half, the Belles outshot the Spartans 11-0 and 8-0 in shots on goal. 

The Spartan’s defense pushed back during the second half keeping the Belle’s offense away from the goal. Finally, with four minutes to go, London put one through the back of the net, with an assist from senior Grace Barresi, to give the Belles a 2-0 advantage.

Overall, the Belles dominated on the field outshooting the Spartans 26-1 and 18-0 shots on goal. Barresi tallied eight shots, sophomore Margaret Slove had six shots and Kaczynski rounded out the night with four shots. Barresi also led on the field with five shots on goal and Slove followed closely with four. 

The Belles will travel to Hiram, OH, this week for their next game.

Coming off of a 3-0 win, Hiram College soccer is 2-5 on the season thus far. Reagan Mory leads on the field for Hiram College with three goals and eight shots on goal so far this season. Olivia Kraft and Kylianne Durachinsky both have an equal shot percentage of 0.333 to lead the offense this season. Emma Deffenbaugh leads the defense in the goal with a total of 36 saves and a save percentage of 0.783. Madie Kennedy follows closely behind with a save percentage of 0.708. 

The Belles are back on the road Wednesday to compete against Hiram College with a 7 p.m. kick-off.
