The Saint Mary’s soccer team started the season slow, going 0-2 out of the gate. The Belles were able to take the 3-0 win over Knox College this past Saturday improving to 1-2 on the season.
The Belles jumped ahead in the first half of the game, taking an early 1-0 lead at the 25:15 time mark. Sophomore Margaret Slove had her first goal of the day. Five minutes later, Slove extended the lead by scoring her second goal, giving the Belles a 2-0 advantage over Knox. Freshmen Danielle Escobedo and Taylor London both had an assist in the first half.
The Belles kept the momentum going after halftime. Senior Izzi Linus wasted no time scoring instantly to increase the Belles’ lead to 3-0.
Saint Mary’s stayed in charge the entire game outshooting Knox 31-1 and in shots on goal with a 19-0 advantage. 22 different Belles played in the game. Slove led on the field with seven shots, senior Mary Kaczynski had five and Linus had four.
In addition to all of this, this past week, for her efforts, Slove took home MIAA Honors with all of her efforts this last week as she totaled 14 total shots and eight shots on goal. This week, Slove had two goals and one assist.
The IUSB Titans are coming off of a 3-0 win over Indiana-University Columbus. Haylie Rodriguez leads the team offensively with five points scored. Alongside her, Olivia Enyeart also leads the team with nine shots on goal. Rylee Cotton has had 20 saves so far this season. With the win, the Titans are now 1-2-1 in the season so far.
The Belles will look to keep the momentum going as they prepare for their next game against Indiana University South Bend. Kick-off is set for 5pm on Tuesday September 10th at home.
