Saint Mary’s volleyball falls to North Central

The Belles play Manchester next, after defeating them last week 3-2

After winning three straight games, the Belles volleyball team took a hit against the North Central Cardinals. 

The Cardinals jumped ahead early on in the first set taking the 25-18 win over the Belles. The Cardinals out-killed the Belles 16-5. During the set, freshmen Giuliana Graczyk and Kalli Lewkowski led on the court with two kills and two assists, respectively.

The Cardinals kept their momentum going into the second set taking a 25-12 win over the Belles. Sophomore Caroline Carens and Lewkowski both tallied two kills during the set and Graczyk added four more assists. 

The Belles started to push back going into the third set but the Cardinals regained control. They won the set 25-16 to sweep the match against Saint Mary’s.

Lewkowski led on the court for the Belles with seven kills, junior Delaney Martin added six kills and sophomore Abby Reese led in assists tallying 13. Senior Cali Allen and junior Karli Fegan both had a total of seven digs each at the end of the night. 

The Belles now prepare to host Manchester at home on Tuesday night with the first set to start at 7 p.m. The last time Manchester and Saint Mary’s went up against each other this past week, Saint Mary’s took the 3-2 win over the Spartans. That was the Belle's first win over the Spartans since 2018. 

Coming off two straight wins, the Spartans are 8-6 overall on the season so far. Avery Ball leads on the court for the Spartans with a high total of 171 kills. Joy Maze follows closely behind with a total of 118 kills. Ball also leads with a total of 202 points herself on the season so far.
