Holy Cross women’s basketball concluded the 2023-2024 season on a high note, finishing with a 16-14 overall record and a 12-8 conference record. Throughout the season, the Saints always kept the score close.
Returning to the team this year is senior guard Jordyn Smith, sophomore guard Aneisah Gail, sophomore guard Lilly Toppen, sophomore forward Brooke Lindesmith, junior guard Audrey Tallent, senior guard Kayliana Hammel, junior forward Elizabeth Edmonds, senior forward Grace Adams and junior forward Carly Spradling. The team welcomes three freshmen this year: guard La’Bria Austin, forward Allie Caldwell and forward Kaiden Hanley.
Last season, the Saints averaged 73.5 points per game overall and 73.9 in conference play, finishing with 2,205 total points and 1,478 conference points. The team graduated two senior, guard Lauren Morris, who contributed an average of 10.8 points per game in the season and held a 41.4% field goal percentage along with 751 career points across 86 games, and forward Neva Longhofer.
This year, the Saints have three seniors, Smith, Hammel and Adams. Smith has been a pivotal leader, achieving back-to-back winning seasons and scoring 341 points last year, including surpassing the 1,000 career points milestone. Hammel set a new record by scoring 345 points and hitting 40% from beyond the arc. Adams was a standout, breaking the Saints’ single-season scoring record with 557 points and maintaining a 75.4% free throw accuracy.
Overall, the past year has shown that the Saints are ready to face any challenge as they prepare to get ready for the ‘24-25 basketball season. The teams first game is set for Oct. 16 against Lake Michigan College with tip-off at 6 p.m.
