Saint Mary’s volleyball falls to Calvin

Belles close homestand with a loss to Calvin in the Red Glasses Game

The Saint Mary’s Belles volleyball team fell to the Calvin Knights in the annual Red Glasses Game, dropping to 8-11 on the season and 0-4 in the MIAA.

The game raises awareness for the Red Glasses Movement that honors Audrey Louise, who passed away at a young age. The goal is to give everyone on the teams and in the audience a pair of red glasses in remembrance of Audrey’s goal to “Live Boldly and Love Big.”

Both teams started off strong in the first set as they battled back and forth for the lead. Calvin was able to pull through late and take the 25-20 win. Junior hitter Delaney Martin shined on the court as she with a total of four kills during the first set. Freshman Giuliana Graczyk also contributed, adding four assists for the Belles.

The Belles struggled in the second set, falling to the Knights 25-16. Martin maintained her strong performance, contributing six more kills, while Graczyk added five assists, bringing her total to nine by the end of the set.

The third set mirrored the intensity of the first, as the Belles came out strong, battling closely for the lead. The teams stayed neck-and-neck, rarely separated by more than one or two points. However, Calvin ultimately secured the set with a narrow 25-23 victory, sweeping the match 3-0.

Freshman Kalli Lewkowski led the Belles with eight kills, Martin finished the night with seven, senior Cali Allen recorded six and sophomore Caroline Carens tallied five. Graczyk rounded out the night with 14 assists while sophomore Abby Reese contributed 12. Junior Karli Fegan led the team with 15 digs while Allen finished with 14.
