Holy Cross men's basketball drop to 2-3 on the season

Holy Cross loses a battle of Saints on the road

This past Tuesday, the Holy Cross men’s basketball team faced off against the Aquinas and took a 78-58 loss.

The start of the first half was a battle between the two teams as they went back and forth tying multiple times with multiple lead changes. Holy Cross scored the first points of the night thanks to a jump shot from senior guard Nash Hostetler. Senior guard Phil Robles II continued to help the Saints stay ahead with a three point shot to make the score 5-3.

As the teams continued to duke it out, a jump shot from sophomore guard Joey Garwood made the score 9-7. The game remained 9-7 for the next few minutes before a layup from junior guard AJ Roseman made the score 11-7. After a 15-6 run from Aquinas near the middle of the half, they took a 26-18 lead over the visiting Saints. Aquinas continued to stay ahead throughout the end of the half finishing 38-30 going into the break.

Senior guard Justin O’Neal started off strong in the second half for the Saints to close the gap to 38-33 with a three point shot, but Aquinas responded, going on an 11-7 run to make the score 49-40. Freshman forward Davide Brembilla contributed two points to make the score 49-42, but Aquinas continued rolling en route to a 61-49 lead. The Saints were unable to mount a comeback as the home-team Saints took the 78-58 win.

Brembilla led on the court as he finished the night with 13 points alongside O’Neal who finished with 12. Brembilla also commanded on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds throughout the night.

Following the loss, the Saints now prepare to face off against Bethel at home on Friday with tip-off at 6 p.m.
