As the Saint Mary’s soccer team fell to 7-8-1 in the regular season and 2-5-1 in the MIAA, it rounded out the regular season with a 2-0 loss against the Hope College Flying Dutch on Wednesday.
Hope took the early lead in the first half, as the Flying Dutch made their first goal of the day at the 10:15 time mark. The Flying Dutch took control of the game as they scored their second goal of the day later in the half as they scored at the 41st minute. This goal increased the lead to 2-0 in favor of the Flying Dutch.
In a defensively dominant second half, neither team managed to score, resulting in a 2-0 final loss for the Belles.
Hope managed more shots on goal over the Belles (5-1) as well as more shots (9-4), although Saint Mary’s saved more shots (3-1).
For the Belles, senior midfielder Mary Kaczynski put up a shot for herself, senior forward Izzi Linus added on a shot and freshmen defenders Isabella Kreydich and Yulissa Gallegos both recorded a shot as well. Kreydich had the lone shot on goal. Senior goalkeeper Riley Lindsey saved three shots on goal made by Hope College.
Rounding out the season before heading into the MIAA Tournament, senior midfielder Grace Barresi and freshman forward Taylor London both lead the team on offense with a total of eight points for the season. Sophomore midfielder Margaret Slove has also continued to contribute on offense with a total of 61 shots rounding out the regular season. On defense, goalkeeper Lindsey leads with the most saves.
With the conference tournament starting, the Belles prepare to travel to Angola, Indiana, on Nov. 2 to face off against Trine University, who are currently 10-4-3 on the season so far and 5-2-1 coming out of conference play.
