A brief synopsis of recent OIT activity

Andrew Rebholz | Tuesday, March 19, 2019

Friday, March 8, 8:38 a.m. — Greetings, Notre Dame student body. Though we realize most of you have evacuated campus for your various spring break plans, we’d still like to send a short email about the current status of connectivity on campus. Sorry to take up your time. Hopefully this won’t be too much of

Nothing’s ever changed in America

Andrew Rebholz | Tuesday, February 26, 2019

Nothing ever really changes, or at least never improves — that is the sole law of history. Everything in modern politics can be understood as a result of American history, of our founding war and documents. Both parties — pachyderm and ass — as well as both ideologies — the old, debilitated one and the

The veil of innocence

Andrew Rebholz | Tuesday, February 12, 2019

“Cowardice at best” is how Grant Strobl ended his fiery letter last week regarding the covering of the Columbus murals. Strobl argues that those murals play a pivotal role in our University’s history — a history so shaped by love in the face of anti-Catholic, anti-immigrant bigotry that we still call ourselves the Fighting Irish —

Cowards, all of you!

Andrew Rebholz | Tuesday, January 29, 2019

My immediate sensation matched that of our student body: class is cancelled this week? Wow, let the revelry ensue. Haven’t had a snow day since iPods were still a thing, and now I can bundle up with all my friends and just sleep, eat soup, drink age-appropriate beverages, like hot cocoa … yes, it all

Commencement speaker not controversial enough — walkout scheduled

Andrew Rebholz | Wednesday, December 5, 2018

“Peggy Noonan is universally admired for the stirring prose, keen insight and the moral perspective of her commentary on America and the world,” University President Fr. John I. Jenkins. One might say too universally admired. Anger and Resentment, the twin pets of the public, have been on the rise these last few days, as seniors stir in a

New petition to ban porn on campus

Andrew Rebholz | Wednesday, November 14, 2018

I’ll never forget walking in on my roommate freshman year. For some reason, he’d plugged his computer into the TV and was watching it on the big screen, hungry eyes glued to the flashing pictures in front of him, so that I had a full view of the video as I walked into the space.

Monsters mourn the memory of Halloween

Andrew Rebholz | Wednesday, October 31, 2018

Freddy is your average every-man: works 9 to 5, enjoys watching “Blue Bloods” and “Family Guy,” closet-Presbyterian, knives for fingers. Just an honest American worker, Freddy Krueger’s made quite a name for himself in the dream-demon industry. Though many of us have heard the stories of his infamous hauntings, many have not heard his story,

Observer columnist writes controversial column

Andrew Rebholz | Tuesday, October 9, 2018

In light of the growing Kavanaugh controversy, Observer columnist Andrew Rebholz published a column last week attempting to reconcile disparate political parties, sympathizing with Prof. Ford and other assault victims in our country, while at the same time understanding that nobody ought to be villainized until a certain burden of proof has been met. Big game this weekend

Andrew Rebholz | Wednesday, September 26, 2018

Truly, this Saturday could be the game day to end all game days. As a senior, I was stoked to see my Irish stand up against those Wolverines and come out victorious — I’d call that the highlight of my college football experience, even after last year’s smashing of Southern Cal. However, I do think

Zahm in outrage when hot girl becomes nun

Andrew Rebholz | Wednesday, September 12, 2018

Last week, Katie Doe, recent ND grad, took her vows and officially joined the Little Sisters of the Poor. Dedicating her life to the Church and putting her love and labors into the hands of God, Ms. Doe was almost immediately caught up in a growing outrage with certain women who choose religious life. “It’s

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
