Accidentally Paleo

Gabriela Leskur | Wednesday, October 14, 2015

I am a dairy-intolerant cheese connoisseur. I am a gluten-intolerant pasta aficionado. I am accidentally Paleo. This is my story. Anyone who knows me would probably tell you about my love of cheese. They’d say, “Oh, yes. I know Gabriela. She’s pretty cool. And she loves cheese.” As an example of my cheese devotion, I

To bar or not to bar

Gabriela Leskur | Monday, October 12, 2015

Months and in some cases years after my closest friends, I finally turned 21. In the two weeks I have been allowed to stand on the hallowed, sticky floors of local bars, I have experienced much and have come to some conclusions about which bars in town are up to my speed. Brothers Bar &

‘Dragon Age: Inquisition’ and Empathy

Gabriela Leskur | Monday, April 20, 2015

Bioware’s “Dragon Age: Inquisition,” the third installment in the “Dragon Age” series, won multiple Game of the Year awards at the end of 2014. But did the game deserve such praise? Ask any gamer their opinion on the matter, and you probably will not find a consensus on whether these accolades should have gone to “Inquisition.” And I,

Honoring Fr. Ted

Gabriela Leskur | Thursday, March 5, 2015

My freshman year at Notre Dame, I had the honor to participate in President Emeritus Fr. Malloy’s freshman seminar. In that class, we read Fr. Ted’s “God, Country, and Notre Dame” and had the opportunity to meet with Fr. Ted one afternoon. I have never been as proud to be a Notre Dame student as

Let’s start today

Gabriela Leskur | Thursday, March 20, 2014

Over my two years at Notre Dame, I have been constantly impressed by the conversations I have had or have overheard here. Students, faculty and staff on this campus are asking the big questions. On a daily basis, whether in classrooms or dorm rooms, people are wrestling with the many issues in our world. Poverty,

Tickled Pink by Legally Blonde

Gabriela Leskur | Sunday, February 23, 2014

Pasquerilla East Musical Company’s (PEMCo) “Legally Blonde: The Musical” whirled and twirled onto the stage this weekend at Washington Hall. The entire ensemble glowed pink with energy and enthusiasm from the moment the curtains opened. With cute puppies, quick costumes changes, peppy dance routines, impressive vocal talent and dedicated acting performances, “Legally Blonde” was

Rediscover Disney movies on Netflix

Gabriela Leskur | Monday, February 10, 2014

What better way to procrastinate than to revisit some classic Disney movies? Move over “American Horror Story” and “Gossip Girl,” an all-age appropriate movie should be your next date with your Netflix subscription. Here is a selection of Disney movies from the golden age of Disney (pre any Miley Cyrus affiliation) to remind you just

The light of Notre Dame

Gabriela Leskur | Thursday, January 23, 2014

One of my favorite songs that I sing with the Folk Choir is “Siyahamba” or “We are marching in the light of God.” When listening to this upbeat spiritual, I can’t help but wonder what that really means — to march in the light of God. For Notre Dame students, the opportunity to integrate faith

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
