Recognizing women

Jordan Cockrum | Tuesday, March 5, 2019

Since 1995, the United States has recognized the month of March as Women’s History Month in an effort to recognize the contributions and achievements of women in American society. It feels fitting to use my last Inside Column as Saint Mary’s Editor as an opportunity to acknowledge the influence of the women in my life.

While Saint Mary’s is now well-known for its nursing program and preparation of women leaders, it was once also known for its ability to prepare students to run a home. Saint Mary’s provides meals to students over break despite closed dining hall

Jordan Cockrum | Wednesday, November 28, 2018

In years past, students who stayed at Saint Mary’s over fall break or the Thanksgiving holiday were left without on-campus dining options. Instead, they had to stock up on groceries and feed themselves with dorm-friendly foods. This year, however, Saint Mary’s offered several dinners for students, who could sign up if they were staying over

Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s communities discuss multiple incidences of bats in residence halls

Jordan Cockrum and Natalie Weber | Monday, November 5, 2018

It was the Saturday night before Halloween when senior Kevin Hottinger, a Sorin resident assistant on duty, heard the screams. He raced up to the third floor of the dorm, where he found the cause of the commotion — a bat. After grabbing the designated “bat net” in his rector’s office, he captured the animal

Ranking of Starbucks’ fall latte menu

Jordan Cockrum | Friday, October 26, 2018

Despite the slack given to its fans, the pumpkin spice latte is indisputably a fall staple. However, I’d argue that a 2017 addition to the fall Starbucks menu should be the true fall

A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record.
