Saint Mary’s students will no longer be provided the option to remain in their residence halls until at least April 13, interim President Nancy Nekvasil announced in email Friday. Junior and senior nursing students in clinicals, senior student teachers, international students and a select group of Residence Assistants, Ministry Assistants and IT student employees are excluded from this change.

Saint Mary’s will extend spring break until March 20, providing faculty time to prepare online courses, the College announced in an email Wednesday. All in-person classes are suspended from March 23 to at least April 13, and students will be provided with online coursework.

The students currently being quarantined after returning from Italy will be able to return to campus following medical clearance. Students who do not need to be on campus in person to finish the semester will be able to work remotely from their home.

In preparation for spring break, any student, faculty or staff member who chooses to travel to China, South Korea, Italy or Iran — which have been placed at a Level 3 travel advisory warning because of COVID-19 — may not return to campus until they have self-isolated for 14 days and received proof of medical clearance from a physician, said Paul Browne, vice president for public affairs and communications, in an email to the campus community.
