Star student ‘Abbott Elementary’ is the next great workplace comedy

Genevieve Coleman | Wednesday, March 8, 2023

As many of my friends know, I have successfully made student teaching my entire personality. Even though I am perpetually exhausted from what I do, my experience being in the classroom every day has been amazing. Growing up, I learned what it meant to be an educator from watching my mom be an amazing kindergarten

Clare, Dale and their 20+ third wheels: ‘The Bachelorette’ Week 3

Claire Rafford and Mariah Rush | Wednesday, October 28, 2020

Hello Bachelor Nation, and welcome to the Claire and Mariah aftershow! We decided to get together and share our thoughts with you all instead of just each other and Twitter. There’s no time to waste, so let’s get started. This week started where the last episode ended — Clare is still wearing one of her

Bachelor in Paradise: Who’s hot and who’s not

John Darr | Friday, September 9, 2016

As the flow of free alcohol and Ashley I.’s tears trickled to a halt, season three of “Bachelor in Paradise” leaves in its wake a number of reality show stars in varying positions of hotness — and notness. Some things are certain: Daniel is the funniest man to ever grace the Bachelor franchise, Wells set a

Alumni secure corporate funding on ‘Shark Tank’

J.P. Gschwind | Monday, November 2, 2015

The opportunity to appear on ABC’s “Shark Tank” is offered to a select number of entrepreneurs, but even fewer are able to close a deal with a shark and secure funding for their company. Notre Dame alumni Mike Doyle and Drew Mitchell were able to do both on an episode of “Shark Tank” when they

It’s fun: ABC’s ‘Quantico’

Nick Laureano | Thursday, October 1, 2015

I’m a TV snob. Ask me if I have a favorite show and I’m wont to name a few perennial Emmy winners. “30 Rock.” “Mad Men.” “The Sopranos.” I may reference a more obscure program like “The Wire,” or its even still more obscure cousin, “Treme.” (That’s “Treh-MAY for the uninitiated.) I am, after all, a

The return of ‘Happy Endings’ and ABC’s 2012 Tuesday nights

Matt McMahon | Wednesday, February 11, 2015

If we don’t study history, it is doomed to repeat itself. Such may be the case with ABC’s short-lived, little-watched 2012-2013 Tuesday night programming. During the fall television season of 2012, ABC originally aired the critical darlings, cult sitcoms “Happy Endings” and “Don’t Trust The B—- In Apt. 23” back-to-back, starting at 9 p.m. each

March for Life

Clare Kossler | Wednesday, February 4, 2015

On Jan. 22, NBC’s Nightly News with Brian Williams included stories on “deflategate,” a measles outbreak at Disneyland, the death of Saudi Arabian king Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, a meeting between Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney and a decrease in the popularity of bacon and kale, among others. A feature story on a documentary about dogs

Promising Sitcoms to Watch

Matthew Munhall | Thursday, November 6, 2014

It is a particularly dire time for the network sitcom. The broadcast networks boast just two ultra-popular comedies — “The Big Bang Theory” and “Modern Family” — and neither are particularly fulfilling on a creative level. This season, NBC pulled its two-hour comedy block from Thursday nights, ending its iconic “Must See TV” lineup after

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
