Notre Dame has a long and enviable record of community service. Whether working for

Moving past the standardized test requirement

Matthew Kellenberg | Thursday, October 8, 2020

Notre Dame made an obvious decision for the 2020-2021 application cycle: suspending the standardized test requirement. Testing centers had closed. Students had few options. Less obvious, yet equally sound, was Notre Dame’s decision to make the new policy “part of a one-year pilot program with the option of expanding to future terms.” Test-optional admissions would

Admissions moves to test optional, giving students ‘one less hurdle’

Serena Zacharias | Friday, August 14, 2020

In June, Notre Dame announced admissions will not require standardized test scores for the 2020-2021 application period. Although COVID-19 concerns catalyzed this change, associate vice president of undergraduate enrollment Don Bishop said this decision has been years in the making. For the past 10 years, Bishop said admissions has considered test scores less and less

Over the course of the year, the University expects to welcome between 2,150 to 2,180 first-year students to the class of 2024 after receiving 21,273 applications and admitting 4,055 students this cycle. Predicting that COVID-19 would decrease the yield rate of first-year students, the University offered a few hundred more acceptances than in previous years;

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
