Student discounts: untapped savings for college students

Kelsey Quint | Friday, August 25, 2023

With classes back in session, Notre Dame students are not alone in their search for savings. As Uber rides and DoorDash orders drain wallets, full-time college students often struggle to save summer job funds. But there are many student discounts and promotions left untapped, often because students simply don’t know about them.  Student discounts have

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ is the most expensive fanfiction ever made

Observer Scene | Tuesday, November 8, 2022

By Júlia Jorge and Matheus Herndl When Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” (ROP) was first announced, we, like many fans, were skeptical. This feeling worsened when the first trailer dropped, revealing how 1) most male elves had short hair and 2) no dwarven women had beards. Although these details seem small,

‘Book of Love’: In the good books of romance movies

Rose Androwich | Thursday, February 10, 2022

Amazon Prime admittedly makes some questionable movies and original series as all streaming platforms do. However “Book of Love” was a genuinely enjoyable movie and one of the better romance movies to watch for the upcoming holiday. In the era of romance films with questionable quality, “Book of Love” is a standout. The plot of

‘Hunters’ transforms history books into comic books

Gina Twardosz | Thursday, March 26, 2020

“Escapism” might not be the right word to describe a show about Nazis, revenge and the Holocaust, but if you’re looking for a show that crosses genres and delivers highly stylized action sequences — all while sticking to an appealing 1970s aesthetic — then Amazon Prime’s “Hunters” is the show for you.  I was initially

Amazon’s campy, evocative ‘Red Oaks’

Erin McAuliffe | Monday, November 2, 2015

Amazon Instant Video released the original comedy “Red Oaks,” a campy, 80s-based summer-fun series, at the beginning of October. The series stars Craig Roberts, the Welsh actor who starred in Richard Ayoade’s indie “Submarine,” who carries over his angsty “not a boy, not yet a man” woes to the small screen as David in this 10-episode series.

Erin McAuliffe | Sunday, February 22, 2015

February is a month when many contemplate getting out of South Bend, as such, this Weekly Watch is fitting. “Puzzled Love,” a Spanish film released in 2010 that is available on Netflix and Amazon Prime, follows the love story of an American and a Spanish student as they study abroad in Barcelona. The basis of

A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
