Journalism has and will prevail

Mary Bernard | Wednesday, March 28, 2018

As someone determined to enter the field of journalism, I am frequently told of its impending death. And yet, I am unequivocally convinced of its long and essential life to come. When considering the state of journalism in today’s world, there are a few things of which I am certain. For one, the rise of

Talking about the grey area … will you listen?

Show Some Skin | Tuesday, January 30, 2018

Earlier this month, Babe.net published a pseudonymous account of a 23-year-old photographer’s (“Grace”) messy date with actor/comedian Aziz Ansari. Saturday Night Revive: Aziz Ansari’s monologue jolts show to life

Jimmy Kemper | Wednesday, January 25, 2017

“Saturday Night Live” (SNL), for better or worse, is a fundamental institution in American political comedy. This history of great comedy has made it disappointing over the

A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
