Padanilam: Irish struggles are result of poor play, not injuries

Benjamin Padanilam | Wednesday, January 24, 2018

Alright, let’s start with the obvious: Notre Dame misses Bonzie Colson. Losers of four straight, the Irish (13-7, 3-4 ACC) have seen themselves fall back to Earth after an improbable 3-0 start in conference play given the laundry list of injuries — Colson, a senior forward, will be sidelined until March, senior guard Matt Farrell missed

Irish remain undefeated in ACC, top Syracuse on the road

Benjamin Padanilam | Saturday, January 6, 2018

No Bonzie Colson. No Matt Farrell. No problem? Well, there were some problems for Notre Dame, but not enough to prevent the Irish (13-3, 3-0 ACC) from picking up a third-straight win to open conference play — this time on the road over Syracuse in a 51-49 contest at the Carrier Dome. “I’ve been at

Brey breaks record as Irish roll without Colson or Farrell

Joe Everett | Thursday, January 4, 2018

Over his 18 years as head coach of the Notre Dame men’s basketball team, perhaps the most successful traits Mike Brey has honed are how to get the most out of his players and to simply find a way to win. In order to pass Digger Phelps for first place in the school’s all-time coaching

Irish surge past Yellow Jackets in ACC opener

Joe Everett | Saturday, December 30, 2017

As it has been for much of the season, Saturday’s ACC opener was a tale of two halves for Notre Dame. Heading into the locker room down 28-23 after watching its offense stagnate for much of the first 20 minutes, Notre Dame (11-3, 1-0 ACC) came out and played like a new team in the

Marek Mazurek | Saturday, December 16, 2017

INDIANAPOLIS — The Irish have taken on one of two appearances in the last couple of games. The first is the team that won the Maui Invitational after beating then-No. 6 Wichita State and then blew out Delaware on the road. The second is the Irish team that dropped two out of three games in

Notre Dame struggles early, falls in final seconds to upset-minded Ball State

Benjamin Padanilam | Wednesday, December 6, 2017

Quiet. That was the nature of the Irish player’s lounge following No. 9 Notre Dame’s 80-77 loss to Ball State on Tuesday. It was the reaction of Irish fans in Purcell Pavilion after the realization of Cardinals junior guard Tayler Persons’ game-winning 3-point shot sunk in. And it was the nature of the Irish scoring

Notre Dame prepares for Ball State after chaotic week

Marek Mazurek | Tuesday, December 5, 2017

It’s been a weird week-and-a-half for Notre Dame men’s basketball. If you made a movie about it, you’d have to cast Clint Eastwood because there’s been some good, some bad and some ugly. The good was Notre Dame’s comeback win over No. 6 Wichita State to win the Maui Invitational in the days before Thanksgiving.

The game received unexpected significance late in the second half, when both

Irish can’t overcome first half deficit in Big Ten/ACC Challenge loss

Mia Berry | Friday, December 1, 2017

A slow start for the No. 5 Irish helped No. 2 Michigan State defeat Notre Dame 81-63 for the program’s first loss of the season on Thursday night in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. “My worst fear was [the Spartans] getting off to great starts because when they do that in this buildin, it’s a heck

Joseph R. Biden has become the second Catholic President in United States history, but his position on abortion is “one that cannot be condoned” according to Rev. Robert Dowd.

“Other bishops think that, because he’s a conscientious Catholic whose faith is obviously important to him, we should strike a more positive tone, particularly at the outset of his presidency. After all, in many ways Biden’s positions are more in line with Catholic teaching than Trump’s, particularly when it comes to migrants, refugees, climate issues, poverty and inequality,” Dowd continued.
