Netflix’s ‘Persuasion’: You cannot persuade me to like this

Rose Androwich | Friday, August 26, 2022

Netflix made a mistake in releasing this 2022 adaptation of the classic written by Jane Austen. It has been universally acknowledged by Jane Austen fans, like myself, that it is not a good film. Comparing it to the original novel and other adaptations makes it fall incredibly short. “Persuasion” is a frustrating film because it

Dear reader, don’t bother with ‘The Duke and I’

Isabella Volmert | Tuesday, March 30, 2021

Like most Austenian-reared hopeless romantics, I too was swept away by Netflix’s “Bridgerton” into the bright and dramatic world of Regency England. The colors, cinematography and string quartet rendition of “thank u, next” charmed my escapist self and trapped my attention for the two days I binged the show. Naturally, I then wanted to delve

‘World of Wonders’: A look into the wonders of nature

Lexi Kilcoin | Thursday, March 11, 2021

Imagine for me, if you will, the scent of a corpse flower. It likens to a pile of diapers rotting in the sun, mixed with rotten blue cheese dressing. Unfortunately, I’ve never had the pleasure of smelling this infamous stench, but this is the description according to Aimee Nezhukumatathil in her new book of prose,

A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
