Ranking every NFL playoff game so far

Aidan Thomas | Thursday, February 3, 2022

The NFL playoffs got off to a slightly slow start in 2022. However, after a largely underwhelming opening weekend, things picked up in a big way. Here’s a quick ranking of the 12 games to take place so far in this postseason. 12. Los Angeles Rams 34, Arizona Cardinals 11 This one was pretty boring

Kalemkerian: NFL divisional round predictions

John Kalemkerian | Tuesday, January 18, 2022

Continuing the trend of a great NFL season, Super Wild Card weekend gave us some great results and matchups to look forward to, although three blowouts marginally dulled the hype. From many fans’ perspectives (including this Giants fan), the Saturday and Sunday outcomes were about as good as could be hoped for, with the hated

Kalemkerian: Midseason NFL Power Rankings

John Kalemkerian | Friday, November 12, 2021

Though the NFL’s decision to expand the regular season to 17 games was met with equal parts praise and criticism, there is one benefit that few realized at the time the decision was announced: The new schedule gives us an exact halfway point in the season. Although it seems like the first nine weeks have

Zwiller: Week Five Overreactions

Thomas Zwiller | Tuesday, October 12, 2021

Let’s overreact to NFL Week Five… Carolina Panthers Claim: Sam Darnold is broken. He looked like a new quarterback through the first three weeks of the season, prompting David Newton to write an article called “Carolina Panthers successfully exorcising Sam Darnold’s ghosts from NY Jets.” However, in weeks four and five, Darnold threw a combined six

Zwiller: Let’s overreact 2.0

Thomas Zwiller | Monday, September 20, 2021

Last week I wrote about the crazy opening weekend: The Titans’ crazy game against the Cardinals, the Browns’ great showing against the Chiefs, the Saints rolling the Packers and the Steelers locking down the Bills.  I think I did pretty well. The Titans’ offense bounced back against the Seattle Seahawks, and the Browns seem to

McGinley: Why play for the Bills?

Mannion McGinley | Wednesday, March 24, 2021

As a Pats fan, I have a hard time understanding why anyone in the NFL would want to play on the Buffalo Bills. Furthermore, why would you want to be a backup quarterback on the Buffalo Bills? Yes, I’m looking at you, Mitchell Trubisky. I just don’t see the logic. The Bears Um, yeah, hi.

Zwiller: New NFL powers emerge after Week 9

Thomas Zwiller | Wednesday, November 11, 2020

Going into Week 9, it felt like I had a solid feel for the NFL season. The Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the top-tier teams in the NFC. The AFC had the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers as their two top-tier teams. However, coming out of Week 9, I feel awfully

Observer Roundtable: ND-Clemson, Cocktail Party and Michigan looking to rebound

Nate Moller, Patrick Gallagher, Aidan Thomas, Liam Coolican and Dominic Gibson | Friday, November 6, 2020

Last week saw a lot of blowouts, and as such, upset picks were difficult to come by. None of our writers successfully notched an upset prediction, leading to a low scoring week. For the second straight week, Nate Moller was our highest scorer, collecting nine of 12 possible points outside the upset prediction. He’s challenging

Concannon: What this off-season means for your fantasy league

Jack Concannon | Tuesday, March 31, 2020

As the sports world remains at a standstill, we were given a slight reprieve by one of the most exciting NFL offseasons in recent history. There are a ton of major faces in new places on the offensive side of the ball, and this breakdown will give you an early primer for how those decisions

Could Boston sports just give it a rest already?

Alex Bender | Friday, February 15, 2019

As a writer for the Sports department, I typically feel I should try to steer away from the subject when I do occasionally get a Viewpoint assignment. However, I am going to make an exception this time around. It’s that time of year again where I get exceptionally annoyed as a native of Buffalo, New

A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
