Letter to the Editor | Wednesday, February 22, 2023

If you’ve taken a stroll across campus in recent weeks, you’ve no doubt noticed a new resident ambling amongst the various pedestrians, cyclists and scooter-riders inhabiting the sidewalks of Notre Dame. Sleek new Starship delivery robots, moving with either extreme confidence or halting uncertainty, are now serving up Grubhub orders for the low delivery fee

Anywhere but here

Andrew Marciano | Wednesday, February 8, 2023

The first fall of snow is always the most memorable experience of a South Bend winter. However, by the time January and February roll around, the cold just becomes an inconvenient nuisance. In addition to the horrid wind chill, black ice covers the sidewalk that makes your usual walk back to the dorm a consistent

I am still connected to this community,

Response letter over neighborhood dispute

Letter to the Editor | Monday, October 11, 2021

No, “Liam” Finn, we are not the bunch of bingo players who live in the “quaint” retirement home across the street: the stereotype on which you base the closing of your recent letter to the editor. In fact, many of us here have — years ago — traveled paths that you who read this now

Shower thoughts, quarantine edition

Ciara Hopkinson | Friday, April 3, 2020

As I struggled, yet again, to come up with a topic for the dreaded inside column, my cabin fever-addled brain hit upon the phrase, “if these walls could talk.” I paused, wondering what the walls of the tiny house I’ve shared with three of my best girlfriends for the past seven months would say about

Ranking the relationships at Notre Dame

Davis Gonsalves | Wednesday, January 30, 2019

Notre Dame is unique in many ways. Our relationships with varying groups on campus set us apart from other schools. However, the relationships within the school are hardly unique among students, and I am attempting to rank these to bring them out to fruition. 11. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
