When I am getting ready to go home, the thing I crave the most is going on a drive. Going on drives has been fundamental to my hometown

Rose Androwich | Friday, February 24, 2023

When I first heard about the student run cafe, Off the Ave (OTA), opening in Spes Unica, one of the classroom buildings at Saint Mary’s, I was excited, to say the least. The cafe opened on Monday, much to the excitement of the Saint Mary’s College community. The hard work of the students who founded

Don’t talk to me before I’ve had my morning coffee

Aidan Thomas | Wednesday, October 5, 2022

The basis of this Inside column started about 10 months ago. As I walked to the back of our lovely office and fired up the Keurig once more at about 4 a.m. This was of course, during the insanity of the Brian Kelly exit and ensuing chaos, which led to…more than one all-nighter. That particular

Walking on clouds at Cloud Walking Coffee

Lexi Kilcoin | Thursday, March 3, 2022

It seems as though coffee shops are popping up left and right here in South Bend. From Sway to Kodachrome to South Blend, South Benders are on the hunt for a perfect brew. While I’m not your average “I can’t survive without my morning roast” type of person, I do enjoy the bitter taste every

Liya Blitzer | Tuesday, October 27, 2020

Starbucks has been my family’s go-to coffee franchise since 1994. My mother and two older sisters are the main coffee drinkers in the family. I never had the desire to drink coffee … until the summer of 2018. When I was still in high school, I never understood why people chose to go to Starbucks

Saint Mary’s SGA considering re-opening Clarissa Dalloway’s Coffeehouse

Maeve Filbin | Monday, September 30, 2019

In the summer of 1991, Peggy Abood (’92) penned the position paper that led to the founding of Clarissa Dalloway’s Coffeehouse. The clubhouse on Saint Mary’s campus served espresso-based drinks — a new creation at the time — and provided an essential student gathering space. Since then, Dalloway’s changed management, moved locations and eventually closed

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
