Miller: Is Colorado still ‘living a lie’?

Jake Miller | Friday, September 15, 2023

While I don’t totally understand it, I love the hype around Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes. The Buffaloes have won eight or fewer games in 19 of the past 20 years, with the average coming out to around 4.5 wins per season. Since 2000, no Power Five program has seen less success on the gridiron than

Miller: Why doesn’t Notre Dame schedule Big 12 opponents?

Jake Miller | Sunday, July 30, 2023

With Colorado’s announced return to the Big 12, new head football coach Deion Sanders and his overhauled football program bring significant media attention to the soon-to-be revamped conference. Just 29 miles away from Denver, Coach Prime and the Buffaloes add another major market to the new Big 12. Meanwhile, Notre Dame wants to hold on

NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament primer: Upsets, dark horses and title picks

Aidan Thomas | Wednesday, March 8, 2023

The NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament is generally less prone to upsets than the men’s tournament. But as the depth and talent in the field increase the parity of the event, upsets are beginning to happen with more frequency. Just last year, four teams sitting on the 11 and 12-seed lines won their opening game. Two

Observer Roundtable Week 5: Aggies and Razorbacks duel in Fayetteville

Sam Ouhaj, Jamison Cook, Nate Moller, Thomas Zwiller, Luke Thompson and Matt Smith | Thursday, September 23, 2021

After a college football week that held many exciting matchups, this week takes a break on the gas. Outside of a only few games, there are few intriguing matchups to watch this weekend. While it will not be another Alabama vs. Florida matchup, this is fine because it lets us here at The Roundtable shine

End-of-the-year ranks

Davis Gonsalves | Wednesday, April 25, 2018

Bittersweet describes this column best. On the one hand, this piece signifies a close to my column for the year. On the other, though, I get to rank all the things that couldn’t fit into one column on its own, so they come together in a ranking extravaganza. Less talk, let’s get to the rankings:

Irish to face Hawkeyes following triumph in Legends Classic tournament

Alex Carson | Tuesday, November 29, 2016

After a 3-0 week, a November tournament title and a 6-0 start, Notre Dame returns to the hardwood Tuesday night against a surprisingly familiar opponent: Iowa. For the third time in four seasons, the Hawkeyes (3-3) and Irish will face off in the early stages of the season — Iowa took a 98-93 game Dec.

Klaus: Colorado proves impressive in transformation of program

Ryan Klaus | Friday, November 11, 2016

This week’s College Football Playoff poll had no surprises at the very top. Alabama decisively held onto its top spot, while Clemson once again stayed close behind in second. In fact, of the top five teams, No. 4 Washington is the only distinguished playoff contender that should surprise anyone who has followed college football since the

Offense propels Notre Dame to weekend sweep

Brett O'Connell and Alex Carson | Monday, February 29, 2016

No. 6 Notre Dame kept its perfect start going over the weekend, downing Colorado on Friday, 14-4, and topping California on Sunday, 21-2. The Irish (5-0, 1-0 ACC) opened their weekend slowly against the Buffaloes (3-1, 1-0 MPSF), with both teams struggling to maintain possession in their respective offensive zones in a game that stayed scoreless for

ND prepares for two at home

Daniel O'Boyle | Friday, February 26, 2016

No. 6 Notre Dame will hope to continue its strong start to the season tonight, when the Irish host Colorado. The Buffaloes (2-0) have opened their season with two wins for the first time in the three-year history of the program, after beating Denver 11-10 and Fresno State 18-4, and are currently receiving votes in

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. A men’s boxing tournament that benefits the Holy Cross Mission in Bangladesh, Bengal Bouts seems to perfectly combine two integral aspects of Notre Dame’s identity: a passion for sports and a commitment to social impact.

This week, From the Archives takes a long overdue look at the history of Bengal Bouts. While this tournament predates the Observer by nearly four decades, we uncovered a selection of stories that capture at least a part of the rich history of this Notre Dame tradition.

We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
