Brian Plamondon | Friday, October 30, 2015

The last time Temple had a zero in the loss column this late in a season, the head coach of the Owls was Pop Warner. The year was 1934. With a defense that returned all 11 starters from last season and a coach who is viewed as a rising star in many circles, the Owls (7-0, 4-0

Irish defense steps up, corrals Georgia Tech’s option attack

Mary Green | Monday, September 21, 2015

They came into Saturday’s game with a hunger and a feeling that no one believed in them but themselves. Despite almost letting Virginia pull off an upset the week before, Notre Dame’s defense was still confident in itself, even if nobody else was, as it held back Georgia Tech for a 30-22 victory. “We gain [our

Defensive mistakes against Cavaliers need to be addressed

Brian Plamondon | Monday, September 14, 2015

After surviving Virginia, a lot of questions surround the Notre Dame offense, most notably its inefficiency on third down, the new face at quarterback and the inability of the offensive line to give the quarterback, whoever that may be, much time in the pocket. At the end of the day, however, the offense put up

Linebackers healthy, ready to anchor Irish defense

Greg Hadley | Tuesday, March 24, 2015

After a 2014 campaign marred by injuries and inexperience, Notre Dame’s defense entered the offseason in need of leadership and stability. Just a few days into spring practice, the Irish defense still features a heavy mix of underclassmen, but it has also found a solid veteran linebacking core to build around. One of the leaders of that core

This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bou This Thursday, Feb. 16, the 93rd annual Bengal Bouts will begin its preliminary rounds. We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department We asked you to Ask The Observer Sports Department and you responded with the request: “Northwestern @ Notre Dame 2014 Football Breakdown”. That game was a heartbreaking loss for a Notre Dame team that had started 6-0 before stumbling down the stretch to a 7-5 record. A bowl game win over LSU salvaged some optimism for the program’s future, but that loss to Northwestern was a shocking result that contributed to one of the more appalling stretches of Irish football in the Brian Kelly era.
